Constituent Resource Locus and Final Resource Locus

The Constituent Resource Locus (CRL) describes the function of a constituent resource within the Enterprise Barcode. The Final Resource Locus (FRL) describes the function of the final resource that constituent resource is incorporated into.

The two loci exist as a pair, inside what the barcode calls a product tier. If an enterprise’s product is a constituent resource, the barcode first captures that resource’s own function in the CRL, then captures the function of the final resource it becomes part of in the FRL — tracking not just what a resource does, but what it eventually becomes. If the enterprise’s product is already a final resource, only the FRL gets filled in; there’s no constituent stage to trace. And since activity products aren’t resources at all, neither locus applies to an AP enterprise — product-use coding for those starts at the Work Group Field instead.

There are four product tiers in the Enterprise Barcode in total — two in the Customer Section, two in the Customer of Customer Section — each following this same CRL/FRL structure to trace a product’s use one level further down the chain.
