Rory Riggs is an executive, entrepreneur, and inventor who developed the Locus Model and the Functional Information System (FIS), a coordinate structure for organizing and classifying information by function across biotechnology, finance, and economics. Mr. Riggs is a co-founder and former Chairman of Royalty Pharma, where he helped establish the pharmaceutical royalty asset class. He is the founder and Executive Chairman of Syntax, whose FIS-based database for the securities industry is used by many of the world’s largest financial institutions. He has been a founder, early investor, executive, or director of several publicly traded biotechnology companies, including Sugen, FibroGen, Cibus, Intra-Cellular Therapies, and Biomatrix, where, as President, he launched Synvisc, the product that established and is the leader in the viscosupplementation category for osteoarthritis of the knee. He was previously a Managing Director at PaineWebber and CEO of RF&P, a real estate investment company owned by the Virginia State Retirement System. He is a director of the Feinstein Institute, the research arm of Northwell, and of the New York Genome Center. He is a graduate of Middlebury College and Columbia University.
