Understanding Economic Physiology

Economic Physiology is explicitly likened to biological physiology, the functional mechanisms of an organism, as distinguished from morphology, which concerns form and structure. The chapter illustrates the pairing with the digestive system: physiology corresponds to the process of digestion (swallowing, breaking down food, absorbing nutrients), while morphology corresponds to the physical organs performing it (throat, stomach, intestines) — establishing that activities and resources are two complementary lenses on the same underlying system rather than separate systems.
