Functional Proximity

Functional Proximity is the measured distance between two functional locations, enabling comparison across otherwise unrelated entities.

Once two entities are located on the Locus Model’s functional coordinate system, they can be compared by how close or far apart those coordinates sit — not by industry, size, or any of the categories conventional classification uses, but by function itself. That’s what makes Functional Proximity possible in the first place: a coordinate system where “distance” between two positions is a meaningful, computable measure, the same way latitude and longitude let you measure distance between two places that have nothing else in common.

Functional Proximity is one of the patent-linked Coordinate Family terms, part of a family of granted US patents assigned to Locus LP rather than a concept the textbook develops with worked examples — the source material here is a single definitional sentence, not a chapter’s worth of illustration.
