Functional Query

A Functional Query is retrieval by functional coordinate rather than keyword or code.

Most search and classification systems retrieve records by matching a keyword, a ticker, an industry code — some label attached to the thing you’re looking for. A Functional Query works differently: it retrieves by where something sits on the functional coordinate system, meaning two entities can surface together because they do the same thing, even if nothing about their names, categories, or codes would ever connect them otherwise.

This spoke is intentionally brief, defined by a single lexicon sentence rather than textbook material.
