Work Group Field

The Work Group Field is a field in the Enterprise and Labor Barcodes that describes a Work Group in an Economic System.

The field means slightly different things depending on which barcode it appears in. In a Labor Barcode, the Work Group Field describes the resource object of the Job Locus — what a laborer’s task is actually acting on, and how that object gets used within a work group. In an Enterprise Barcode, it describes the work group in which the enterprise’s product is used within the customer’s system. Both versions are doing the same underlying job: locating a resource inside a specific work group, rather than just noting that it exists somewhere in the system.

The Work Group Field sits alongside the Terminal Case Marker, which determines whether that work group is where the classification stops. If the work group is at the Central Department Cycle of the agent using the product, the classification terminates there and gets copied into the Department Locus. If it isn’t, classification continues into a second product tier, following the same process until a terminal work group is reached.
