Understanding Agent Intermediary

Agent Intermediaries are distinguished from With Inventory Intermediaries by not taking the product onto their own balance sheet: they broker a connection between transacting parties without recording the transaction as inventory, and from Payer Intermediaries by not subsidizing payment. The textbook’s example is travel booking platforms like Priceline or Expedia, which perform a sales activity for hotels and airlines by connecting them to consumers; when such a platform merely directs a consumer to book directly with the provider rather than executing the sale itself, its function shifts to a marketing role instead. Other examples given are real estate brokers/asset managers and transaction platforms like eBay.
