Understanding Work Group

Every Department is a Work Group, but not every Work Group is a Department, since Department is the special case of a Work Group located specifically at the Central Department Cycle; Work Groups more typically indicate sub-Department Economic Systems relative to the agent. The multi-level model applies reorientation repeatedly: each of the 36 department-level activities can itself be viewed as a full Economic System with its own 36-activity Work Group Cycle, and each of those activities can in turn be reoriented into a Sub-Work Group Cycle, and so on indefinitely. The textbook’s illustration of a firm’s 1.2 (Transportation) department walks through this concretely, showing the 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, and 3.3 work groups nested within the 1.2 departmental work group, each redefined relative to transporting inputs and subjects for the firm’s 2.2 department.
